This page details all the places a driver needs to take themselves or their car over a race weekend.

Paddock Access

On turning into, from the A823, the Knockhill entrance, continue until the main entrance and pay booths can be seen, to the left. This takes you directly into the paddock. From the entrance, turn to the right for Paddock 2 or to the left for Paddock 1. Straight on is the café / bar, which is only open for major events; across Paddock 1 from here is Kinnairds Bistro.

The paddock entrance. Left and centre are the pay booths for pedestrians. To the right is for vehicular access.
Having passed through the pay booths, the speed limit is 10mph throughout. A toilet block can be seen ahead, to the right. Beyond this, turn right for Paddock 1.

Ahead and to the right is a café and bar that is only open for major events. Kinnairds Bistro is usually available and is opposite the café and bar, at the opposite end of Paddock 1.

Paddocks 2 and 3 are to the left.

The Paddocks

From the entrance, turn to the right for Paddock 2 or to the left for Paddock 5. Straight on is the café / bar, which is only open for major events.

Paddock 1 is to the left, after the toilet block and besides the café / bar. Opposite the café / bar across Paddock 1, is Kinnairds Bistro.

For Paddock 3, continue past the café / bar and then bear to the right.

There no longer is a Paddock 4.

As can be seen from the map, all the action takes place in Paddock 1. Therefore, in the following tours, numerical paddock ordering has been ignored. By describing paddocks 2 and 3 first, all three paddocks are effectively grouped together, rather than the minor paddock sections being lost at the end of the long Paddock 1 tour.

Paddock Two

1
Turning right from the entrance, just before the café and bar, leads into Paddock 2.
2
On entering the paddock, there is a fuel bay that is for Knockhill circuit only. It is not available for competitors.

Water taps are here, against the wall to the left of the bay.

Paddock Five

1
From the entrance, ahead and to the right is a café and bar that is only open for major events.

To the left is a toilet and shower block. Before this, turn left to enter Paddock 5.
2
From the entrance and turning immediate left, you will see a large paddock area. The block on the left is for business units that run the length of the paddock.

Going to the far end of the block and turning right will lead you to the Kinnairds Bistro. Bearing right will lead to the medical centre and bridge.
3
The centre of Paddock 5. The buildings just about visible at the end of the business units are for the karting centre.

Official Locations

Signing On
This takes place at the Kinnairds Bistro. The desk is just on the inside of the premises, which is entered, from this photograph via the right end.

When I last competed at Knockhill there were no queues for signing on, which was unfortunate, as I didn’t have an excuse for a cuppa and sandwich.
Media Centre
From the entrance to Kinnairds Bistro walk in the direction of the circuit. After the toilets is the Media Centre.
Race Admin
This is the Admin Block. From the entrance to Kinnairds Bistro walk in the direction of the circuit, turn left after the toilets and head between the toilets and the Media Centre. Turn right at the end of the Media Centre and Race Control is on the left.

The Clerk of the Course, along with other clerks and stewards, can also be located from here.
Medical Centre
From Paddock 1, walk past the Northern end of Kinnairds Bistro as if you are heading to the pedestrian bridge.

Just after the Electric car charging points, on the right, is a gate, which gives access to the Medical Centre.

There is a ramp leading up to Reception.

Race Locations for Clockwise Circuit

Paddock

Assembly Area
From the units that run along the northern edge of the paddock, there is a set of toilets in the middle. Just below, in the centre of the paddock, is a yellow box junction. The entry to the Assembly Area is below that, alongside the exit of the Scrutineering Bay.

Noise Test
Noise testing is normally conducted on entry to, or while queuing to enter, the Assembly Area.

Pit Lane
From the paddock, the pit lane is accessed via the Assembly Area. A gate separates the Assembly Area from the garages.
Parc Ferme
This is located between the scrutineering bay and the pit lane.

After a session on-circuit, Parc Ferme is reached via the pit lane entry by turning left just before the start of the garage block and then turning immediate left.
Scrutineering
There are two narrow yellow box junctions about the centre of Paddock 1. Just south (towards the circuit) of the box junction closest to Kinnairds Bistro is the entry into Scrutineering.

From the circuit, Scrutineering is accessed via Parc Ferme, into which drivers will be directed by the marshals.

Pit Lane

Assembly Area to Pit Lane
From the paddock, the pit lane is accessed via the Assembly Area. A gate separates the Assembly Area from the garages.

On entering the pit lane, bear left and head past the garages.
Pit Lane to Circuit
From the Assembly, the pit lane is uphill past the garages, after which it heads downhill.

It is straight all the way to the exit, but be aware that a red flag may have been thrown by the time you are ready, so obey lights and marshal instructions.

You may also be held back by the lights due to cars on track. When released, don’t assume it is safe; it is the driver’s responsibility to check for traffic, when re-joining the circuit.
Circuit to Pit Lane
From the circuit, the pit lane entry comes up very quickly on the left, so take care, when rounding Taylors Hairpin and raise a hand in warning. There is generally time to maintain speed until entering the pit lane, before quickly shedding speed
Pit Lane to Parc Ferme
On entering the pit lane, turn left by the start of the garage block. Pass the exit from the Assembly Area, to the left, directly into Parc Ferme.

Pit Lane to Paddock
On entering Parc Ferme, marshals will instruct you to continue straight on into the paddock.
Pit Lane Entry to Pit Lane Exit
From the entry, it is uphill to the garage block. You can stop at the garages for servicing, such as tyre pressure, before continuing. Just after the end of the garages, the pit lane starts to head downhill.

Grid and Start Lights

From Taylors Hairpin, the back of the grid can be seen before the pit lane entry.
The head of the grid is just before the brow of the hill. The starting lights are ahead, on the pit wall, above the start-line marshal post.
There are repeater lights at the start of the pit wall.

Pit Lane

Assembly Area to Pit Lane
With the area between the medical centre and the Wullie Brown Marshals Centre acting as the Assembly Area, you will exit here ahead of the garages and turn right and pass the garages towards the pit exit road.
Pit Lane to Circuit
From the Assembly Area, start a gentle decline towards the pit exit lane.

From the circuit, the pit lane entry approach follows an uphill left-hander, so the racing line and pit-lane approach are at the same point.

Don’t slow suddenly, without warning. It may be the fault of the driver behind, but you’ll still have a dent at the back of your steed.

Raise a hand in warning and turn off, before reducing speed.
Pit Lane to Parc Ferme
On entering the pit lane, turn right at the end of the garage block, on the right. Pass the exit from the Assembly Area, to the left, directly into Parc Ferme.

Pit Lane to Paddock
On entered Parc Ferme, marshals will instruct you to continue straight on into the paddock.

Grid and Start Lights

From Duffus Dip, the back of the grid is only a short distance ahead, just before the pedestrian bridge, where the pit entry lane begins to be separated from the circuit with a solid white line.
The head of the grid is just after the brow of the hill. The starting lights are ahead, on the pit wall, above the start-line marshal post.

Note that there are no repeater start lights.
